The Internet Printing Protocol is a protocol that is on a standards
track with the IETF. The IETF is a standards body that is responsible
for the base protocols that have brought about the widespread use of the
Internet including http, ftp, smtp and others.
The e-print Engine provides a solid framework to build either a
client or a server by providing for the encoding and decoding of the IPP
protocol stream into a set of Java classes that are both easy to use and
fully complete in functionality. In addition to providing a Java
interface the e-print Engine supports an XML interface.
The e-print Engine is available in two configurations, standard and
secure. The standard version is targeted at a base for IPP clients and
servers that run on desktop machines. The secure version provides for
security by including an implementation of SSL3 and soon TLS.
